If a sore, irritation, or lesion in the mouth does not heal within two weeks, it should be evaluated by a dental or medical professional. Early detection can significantly improve outcomes in oral cancer.

Signs and Symptoms

Possible signs of oral cancer include:

Persistent ulcer

Firm area along the tongue or oral tissues

Ongoing tongue, jaw, or throat discomfort

Unexplained bleeding

Difficulty swallowing

Red (erythroplakia) or white (leukoplakia) patch
